What a super week we had!

In maths we have been learning about multiplication and division. We have been thinking about if they can go in any order and using arrays to solve different questions.
In Mental Maths we have been learning to tell the time. Please practice at home We have been focusing on o clock, half past, quarter past, quarter too. Later in year 2 we will be learning 5 mins times.
Welcome back to school. I hope you had a good Christmas break and a Happy New Year. This term we are learning about dinosaurs!
On Tuesday, we had an urgent letter from Mr Ruck. He needed us to investigate the allotment for something unusual. We went to take a look and think we found an amazing dinosaur fossil. (Take a look at the pictures!)
This week we will write a letter to a paleontologist ( Professor Manning - Mrs Manning's Brother in Law) to ask him to come and check it out!
This week we have been working hard on our subtraction with regrouping. We have needed to be super neat with our tens and ones drawing so that we can be accurate with our answers.
We have also enjoyed writing our own versions of the Way Back Home story that we have been learning in English.
On Thursday we had our visit from the Explorer dome! It was out of this world! Check out some pictures of us about to enter the dome!
Weeks 1 and 2
Mr Jefferies has been on paternity leave for weeks 1 and 2. Thank you for your kind comments and wishes for Mrs Jefferies and baby Charlie.
Draco class have been really busy with Ms Nichols and Mrs Hughes keeping a keen eye on the class with the teachers that have been covering Mr Jefferies.
The children have been learning all about space! In History we have found out about both people and animals who have been to space and loved learning about the space race between NASA and ROSCOSMOS. We also talked about the feelings of Michael Colins who went all the way to the moon but stayed in the rocket! What a good friend!
Week two was FAB week. The children made friendship bracelets in cross phases and had a lovely time. Emily F was voted for by a landslide to be friend of the week.
In maths we have been leaning about addition. Ask your child to show you our strategy for adding two 2 digit numbers.
In English we have been looking at the story 'The Way Back Home' by Oliver Jeffers ( Not Mr Jefferies!) We have used the playpod to build and fix spaceships!

In English we have used the story of the Gingerbread Man to help us with our learning and wrote our own versions with a new delicious character. This year at St Stephen's we are taking part in the better behavior project with lots of schools in South Glos. Mr Jefferies is leading the project in our school so luckily Draco class get to be the first children to get a sneak peek at some new ideas!
One of those new ideas is to have a recognition board in the classroom. This is so all of the adults can reognise the children for a specific thing.
We have already completed our first one for 'Quiet independent learning' Take a look! Next up is 'Being ready to learn.'
Also from next week (23.9.19) Check out our whole school recognition board for 'Fantastic Walking'
