Remote Learning for week beginning 25th January 2021

We hope you are all well. Next week, all Year 1 children will be learning about the same topics whether at home or at school in the bubble. Hopefully you will have all received an email with the information for lessons (below). If you have any questions, please email your child's class teacher.

Aim for 1 phonics, 1 English and 1 Maths session per day. Foundation subjects can be spread out over the two weeks. This includes Science, Art, Geography etc.. However, all children have access to Collins eBooks, DoodleMaths and PurpleMash and if you have to prioritise lessons then we suggest prioritising daily phonics, daily eBook reading and Maths. Children can and should spend time playing - play is a crucial part of Year 1 and child development and also gets the children away from screens.

English (two week plan)

Phonics (one week plan)

Phonics for the week beginning 18th January 2021

We will be continuing with split digraphs for phonics (a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e & u_e). See plan below.

Tuesday's session will need examples of real/alien words (alien words are words that should be read using the sound (split digraph). This would should not be corrected or changed to make a real word - so it is read like an alien would pronounce it. You could easily change this lesson by using PhonicsPlay - https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/dragons-den and selecting the split digraph to practise.

shape, pate, bake, gade, flake, quade

pede, extreme, geme, theme, quede, evening, flene

English - Dear Zoo

Session 1 - Wednesday 6.1.21

They sent me a __________. He was too _________.

  • Can you remember the describing word for each animal?

elephant

giraffe

lion

camel

snake

monkey

frog

puppy

Session 2 - Thursday 7.1.21

  • What is your favourite animal? It could be from Dear Zoo, or something else! Draw a picture of it. Use another piece of paper to make a flap to go over it.
  • Write sentences for it in the style of the book.

They sent me a _____. He was too ________. (You can make up a different describing word if you like!)

Session 3 – Friday 8.1.21

  • Look at the document below “What am I?”
  • Think of your own animal – it could be the one you drew yesterday or a new one! What does your animal look like? What colour or size is it? Can it jump, slither, crawl, roar or squeak? What does it eat?
  • Think of some sentences you can say to an adult about a zoo animal. You could start your sentences with…

I am______.

I have _____.

I can _______.

I eat ________.

  • Then write your sentences down. Can someone else guess what it is?
