St Stephen's Infant

School Council

Each class elects a boy and girl to act as their 'Representatives' on School Council for Terms 1,2 and 3.

'Deputies' are also elected for each class to stand in for Reps if they are away.

The Deputies then take over as Reps in Terms 4,5 and 6.

School Council meets at least once/term to discuss and share ideas to help make St. Stephen's Infants an even better school.

The School Council helps children to understand the democratic process by giving everyone an opportunity to share their views and to take part in votes to help make decisions.

During Class Council the children are able to discuss and share their views and the Reps then report back to the School Council.

Mr Ruck organises the School Council meetings and records the minutes.

The minutes are shared with the children, staff, parents/carers and governors

Mr Ruck met with the Y1 and Y2 Reps earlier this term and the children thought of ideas for the reward children should have for making right choices in assembly.

The children voted for a day when children can bring a cuddly toy to school.

On Thursday 16th October we had our first full meeting with Reception, Y1 and Y2 Reps.

The Y2 Reps collected the Reception and Y1 Reps and escorted them to the Staffroom.

Mr Ruck introduced the Reps to each other and explained the purpose of School Council.

The children were presented with their SSIS School Councillor badges and then thought of ideas for our BBNET Clubs that will run during the school day on 3 Fridays next term.

School Council thought of over 30 ideas for clubs including Gardening, Art, Dressing Up, Bug Hunting and Yoga. I will share the ideas with staff and they will choose a club to lead.

The children will then be free to pick a club to attend.

As part of realising our school vision, this year SSIS will be working towards being recognised as an

Eco School. https://www.ecoschools.global/

School Council will be helping to plan and implement ‘green’ initiatives over the rest of the academic year.

We will be starting this work next term.

Thank you to Ms Hughes who is our Eco-School Lead.
