Infant Agility
Well done everyone for trying your best during our Infant Agility activities.
Term 6, week 1
We have had a great start to the new term because Mr Ruck's lunch went missing and we realised it was the seagulls from the story The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch! We found the basket outside in the allotment and it caused much hilarity! We used this 'wow' moment to write about what happened and to record it in different ways. We also made scenes from the story using lego and construction materials.
This term we are learning about Summer and we have already found about the parts of plants like scientists do. We looked carefully at the similarities and differences between plants and trees.
Term 4 weeks 5 and 6;
We have been enjoying our book 'Toys in Space.' We have been looking at planets and writing our own invitations for imaginary parties after being inspired by the book.
We have also been learning to tell the time using clocks and we have used our own clocks to show o'clock and half past.
The tricky words we need to practise are;

Red Nose Day 2022!
Term 4, weeks 1-3
We have started teaching our new 'Little Wandle' Phonics scheme throughout the school this term and the children have responded very enthusiastically! They are really enjoying seeing the new pictures to go with the graphemes and learning the new captions. We are carefully matching the decodable books to each child's phonic knowledge and these new books will be sent home on Tuesday 15th March.
In the last few weeks we have also been learning about Baby Bears adventures from the book Whatever Next. We have role-played the story, made rockets, written postcards and enjoyed 'hot-seating.' (Where children imagine they are baby bear and answer questions.

World Book Day 2022!
Term 3, Week 6;
In English we have been retelling the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bear'. We have been retelling the events in order using descriptive language.
In Maths we have been solving subtraction number sentences counting back using a 100 square.
For phonics we have continued to practise ph (dolphin, alphabet), ur (church, surf), ew (few, newt), ew (crew, stew). Can you write your own list of words and use them in a sentence?
Term 3, Week 5;
In English we have been on the look out for Goldilocks and have been writing 'Wanted' posters describing the characteristics of Goldilocks. We haven't found her yet but hopefully soon!
In Maths we have been solving addition number sentences by counting on using a 100 square.
We have continued to practise the digraphs aw (claw), au (haunt), ue (rescue), ue (blue). Can you write a list of words with these digraphs? Can you write a sentence with some of them in?
Term 3, Week 4;
We have had a great start to the term. Our topic is 'Heroes and Villains' which the children are really enjoying.
There was a crime scene outside and we worked out that Goldilocks had eaten all the porridge, plus she has broken baby bears chair!
We wrote about what happened to tell Mr Ruck. We also made traps for Goldilocks and cooked our own porridge to taste what it is like. We loved choosing our toppings too! (See pictures below)
In maths we have been representing numbers to 100 in different ways using equipment. In phonics we have been revising our digraphs. Please practise these at home and see if you can find any words with them in?

We have enjoyed supporting 'Children In Need'.
This week has been 'Friendship Week'. We have been sharing our ideas on what makes a good friend and how important it is that we are kind, helpful and caring towards each other. We have worked in cross-phase groups to make friendship bracelets.
In phonics we have been looking at the split digraphs a_e and e_e, for words like make, cake, came, plate, theme, complete, scene, swede, even etc. Can you write a list of words with these split digraphs in them? Can you write a sentence?
We have continued to practise our sight words from our previous weeks learning.

In Maths we have been exploring ways to make 10 and 20 using Numicon and other counting equipment.
In English we wrote our own 'Knuffle Bunny' story by changing the characters and the toy in the story.
Term 2, weeks 1 and 2;
Our new topic is Toys! We will be finding out all about toys; what they are made of, how old they are, which we like best and how they move? We will be using materials to make our own toys move like paper springs, levers and split pins.
This week we have read Dogger, Old Bear and Knuffle Bunny which are based on toys which get lost. Our aim is to write our own version of Knuffle Bunny by the end of week 3.
We have loved doing P.E with Nick from Bristol Rovers training too. It's amazing!
In maths we are adding two numbers and counting on from the biggest to make it quicker.
For Phonics our focus is consonant blends such as 'bl, gr, fl, sl, sw, tw, tr, cr.' We have written words with these and read sentences with those words.

Week 7
We started the week by going on an Autumn walk all around our school to look at what we could see, hear and feel. It was great fun finding lots of different natural objects such as carrots from the allotment.
We made a collection and talked about what we had found. Then we read some Autumn poems and wrote our own.
In maths we have been learned about numbers that are greater and less than each other. We looked at the signs for these and what the 'equals' sign means.
In phonics we have begun spelling our sight words. Please can you try at home too......

Week 6;
This week we have enjoyed reading simple instructions to make a paper dragon. It's been great fun playing schools and doing the 'sight word challenge.'
Our handwriting is improving all the time and we are working on our fine motor skills in class. In P.E we did Cosmic Yoga which was great fun!
In maths we have been finding how many tens and ones are in numbers to 20 and over.
Our phonic sounds are;

Please practice these at home and see if you can find any words with the sounds in such as 'pie, bead, boy, stir.'
This week we have been reading the story Zog by Julia Donaldson. We have been retelling the story and writing sentences about the character Zog.

This week we have been talking about celebrations and we are going to have our own party in Zog class.
In maths we have added one more to numbers. We like adding in our heads but we have also used the number lines and Numicon to help. We found the hidden star numbers in our classroom which was great fun. We then added one more to them!

Term 1
Welcome to Zog!

What a super start to the year we have had! It has been so lovely to meet and get to know the children. They have settled in really well and are enjoying the learning so far.
We are excited to be introducing Continuous Provision this year where children learn in a practical way using a range of high quality resources and adult input. Here is a description of Continuous Provision;
Continuous provision describes all of the different provision areas which are available for your children to use every day. Within each of these areas of provision there should be a core range of resources that children can use all of the time, throughout the whole year. The purpose of an effective continuous provision is to offer children a constant environment that is safe for them to explore whilst challenging their learning. It should allow children the freedom to explore and become independent in making choices.
Our topic this term is Ourselves and the books we are looking at are; The Gruffalo, Zog and Elmer.
